Sometimes the hardest part is not starting.
It’s starting again.
We begin with good intentions—
a quiet moment in the morning,
a whispered prayer,
a desire to stay present with God.
And then life moves.
We get distracted.
We forget.
We drift.
And somewhere along the way,
a quiet voice begins to whisper:
You should be doing better than this.
God Is Not Keeping Score
But God is not standing at a distance,
measuring your consistency.
He is not disappointed
when you lose your rhythm.
He is near—
in the very moment you notice you’ve wandered.
“The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.” (Psalm 103:8)
This is the rhythm of His heart:
not pressure,
but mercy.
Returning Is the Practice
It can feel like failure
when we have to begin again.
But what if returning
is not a failure of the practice—
what if it is the practice?
Each moment of noticing
and turning back
is a small act of love.
Not dramatic.
Not perfect.
But real.
“Return to Me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord. (Malachi 3:7)
There is no hesitation in Him.
No delay.
Only welcome.
A Gentle Way Back
When you realize you’ve drifted,
you don’t need to fix anything.
You don’t need to catch up.
You can simply pause,
take a breath,
and turn your attention back.
A quiet prayer is enough:
Here I am, Lord.
I’m back.
And that is all.
Let It Be Light
There is a way of walking with God
that is heavy and demanding.
And there is a way
that is light.
Jesus invites us into the second.
“My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:30)
Not because life is simple—
but because He carries what we cannot.
You are not meant to carry
the weight of doing this perfectly.
Begin Again, Today
If you’ve been away for a while—
even a few minutes,
even a few days—
you are not behind.
You are simply at the place
where you can begin again.
And that place
is always now.
A simple way to begin today:
Notice where you are.
Take one slow breath.
Whisper a quiet return.
Continue the Journey
