There was a time when I thought a meaningful life would look…
bigger.
More accomplishments.
More recognition.
More certainty that I was making a difference.
Without realizing it, I had quietly accepted the idea that significance had to be visible.
That if my life wasn’t remarkable to others,
perhaps it wasn’t remarkable at all.
But God has been teaching me something different.
He has been teaching me to notice the quiet places.
The places that would never make the news.
The moments that no one else applauds.
The ordinary days that seem to pass unnoticed.
I’ve discovered joy while making socks.
I’ve found peace restoring old furniture.
I’ve watched sunlight move across the floor while drinking my morning tea.
I’ve sat beside my little dog as she slept.
I’ve shared simple conversations that left my heart lighter than before.
None of those moments looked extraordinary.
Yet each one somehow became holy.
Perhaps we have confused significance with visibility.
We live in a world that celebrates the spectacular.
The biggest.
The fastest.
The loudest.
The life everyone notices.
But God so often seems to work differently.
Jesus spoke of seeds.
Bread.
Lamps.
Fishing nets.
Coins.
Lilies.
Birds.
Wedding feasts.
He drew people’s attention to ordinary things because ordinary life was where God’s kingdom could already be found.
Even Jesus Himself spent far more years living quietly than He did teaching crowds.
For most of His earthly life, He simply lived.
He worked.
He gathered around tables.
He celebrated.
He grieved.
He walked dusty roads with friends.
There was nothing wasted in those hidden years.
That gives me hope.
Because perhaps God is not measuring my life by how many people notice it.
Perhaps He is looking at something entirely different.
The kindness I offered.
The beauty I created.
The faithfulness of showing up.
The way I cared for the people He entrusted to me.
The moments when I chose peace instead of hurry.
An ordinary life is not a small life.
It is a life where love has room to grow.
Where gratitude has time to take root.
Where joy is discovered in unexpected places.
Where God quietly meets us in the everyday.
I wonder if we spend too much of our lives waiting for something extraordinary to begin…
while God is already filling today with quiet gifts.
Not because today is perfect.
But because He is present.
Perhaps the richest life is not the one that is seen by the most people.
Perhaps it is the one that notices God in the most ordinary moments.
What ordinary moment today might be more sacred than you first imagined?
